On November 20, accompanied by the beautiful melodies of Song of Che Guevara, Beautiful Havana and La Paloma, the China World Peace Foundation and the Cuban Embassy in China jointly organized an event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Che Guevara's visit to China at the Peace Garden Museum. Mr.Li Ruohong, Chairman of the China World Peace Foundation, Mr.Wu Wei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Mr.Xu Yicong, former Chinese Ambassador to Cuba, Mrs.Cen Chulan,Interpreter during Che Guevara’s visit to China, H.E.Pereira,Cuban Ambassador to China, Ambassadors of Argentina, Venezuela and other countries to China, diplomats of Latin American and Caribbean embassies in China, Russia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay and other embassies, experts and entrepreneurs attended the event.
Chinese and foreign guests watched a documentary and photo exhibition on Che Guevara at the Peace Garden Museum, listened to the piano music in commemoration of Che Guevara played by Chinese and Cuban musicians, and released the doves of peace together.
Mr.Li Ruohong, President of the China World Peace Foundation, said in his speech that Che Guevara's idealistic heroism has become a symbol of the times. We remember history in order to look into the future. China is carrying out a dual-cycle international and domestic layout, hoping that Caribbean and Latin American countries and China will interact effectively in economic, social and cultural markets and resources, take "Peace+1" as the path, carry out online and offline peace public welfare actions, protect world heritage, inherit and disseminate intangible cultural heritage, maintain world peace with inclusive wisdom and strength, and tell a good peace story for the younger generation.
In his speech,H.E.Pereira,Cuban Ambassador to China, expressed his memoriam for Che Guevara and said that there was nothing more moving than commemorating the 60th anniversary of Che Guevara's first visit to China at the China World Peace Foundation. His sense of justice and the pursuit of peace for people around the world are all marked by his sense of justice, and in the current context we need cooperative solidarity, altruism and internationalism to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and other major challenges that threaten world security.
Mr.Xu Yicong, a former Chinese Ambassador to Cuba, recalled and shared stories of Che Guevara's two visits to China and his own visits to Cuba, Argentina and Latin America, said Che Guevara was a revolutionary who wanted to save humanity from the depths of his heart and that his spirit had inspired people of all ages around the world.
At the event, Ambassador Pereira presented the Chinese Communist Youth League and the China World Peace Foundation with honorary certificates and commemorative medals for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba.
In the Landscape Stones site of Peace Garden, President Li Ruohong and Ambassador Pereira unveiled the Peace Landscape Stone, which represents the commitment to peace, with the permanently engraved Che Guevara Peace Message: "We want to build socialism; we have declared ourselves the supporters of those peace fighters, we have declared ourselves one of the non-aligned countries, and although we are Marxist Leninists, the non-aligned countries, like us, we are all fighting imperialism."
During the event, President Li also signed the Peace Development Initiative together with many ambassadors and diplomats of China, Cuba and Caribbean and Latin American countries. In order to strengthen the traditional friendship between China and Cuba and promote economic, social cooperation and cultural interaction between Caribbean and Latin American countries and China, the China World Peace Foundation and the Cuban Embassy in Beijing and the Peace Garden Museum jointly initiated a variety of online and offline peace and public welfare, jointly building a sustainable "Belt & Road Cultural Interactive Map", protecting, inheriting and disseminating World Heritage and Intangible Cultural Heritage, and safeguarding world peace. Representatives of Latin American countries in China and other countries signed the initiative and expressed their willingness to play an important role in promoting the construction of the Belt & Road Initiative and the interaction of economic and cultural exchanges.
