On January 20th, 2019, the International Salute Committee presented the King Legacy Award for International Service to Dr. Li Ruohong, President of China World Peace Foundation (CWPF) and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation (BJIPCF), in recognition of his contribution to peace, culture and other areas for the international community over the past years. It was the first time that the Award was presented to a Chinese honoree.
The Honorary Chair H.E. Mninwa Mahlangu and Secretary General Ms. Madeline Y. Lawson stated in their speeches that Dr. Martin Luther King,JR. is a model of equality and peace. His vision and philosophy is timeless and are of great significance to the building of a community featuring fair and just today. Over the years, the CWPF and BJIPCF led by Dr. Li Ruohong has committed to make diplomatic efforts for public welfare and world peace and contributing to the development of culture, education and health. The team has enthusiastically served in Asia, Africa and other regions and been recognized and nominated by members of the International Salute Committees. The Award embodies the inheritance and development of the spirit of peace, equality, and development of Dr. Martin Luther King, JR., and is of profound significance.
The King Legacy award was established in 1992, the honorees over the years have been outstanding contributors in peace, education, health and other areas. It also reflects the efforts of people across the world in building a community of shared future for mankind. The honorees this year include honorable contributors from South Africa and Pakistan. Over 200 participants, including ambassadors to the United States, university presidents, representatives of international NGOs, and previous honorees, attended the award ceremony.
