On June 8, the 19^th Peace Cup Hua Tang International Golf Tournament was held in Beijing. The theme of this year’s tournament is “Green Belt and Road & Transnational Enterprises Set Off Again”. Mr. Sha Zukang, former under-secretary-general of the UN, Mr. Faisal Mohamed, ambassador of Maldives, presidents of transnational enterprises, representatives of international organizations and celebrities from various social sectors participated in the public benefit activity.

This year marks the 40^th anniversary of the Reform and Opening Up. Foreign-invested enterprises have made remarkable contributions to the development of the Belt and Road and the economic and social development of Beijing. The tournament followed the previous practices of setting charity holes. The contributions of participants have been donated to an elementary school in the poor county in He Tian district, Xin Jiang province, for poverty reduction through education and promotion of peace and public welfare.

Mr. Faisal Mohamed, ambassador of Maldives, said that the cooperation of Maldives and China is embracing the best time. Maldives is an active supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative and hopes to make its regional characteristic more prominent. He said that the People-to-People Connectivity in the “Belt and Road Five Connectivity” could be further promoted by cultural exchanges in the civil society between China and Maldives. Such activities will enhance friendship between the peoples and boost economic development in both countries.

According to statistics, golf players from more than 100 countries have participated in the tournament over the past 19 years. Mr. Yang Xiaoping, president of the Beijing Association for Enterprises with Foreign Investment, said that the continued support from the international society during the past 19 years speaks volume for the brand value and the platform impact of the tournament.

Li Ruohong, president of China World Peace Foundation, said that the participants have been gathering at the traditional “Peace Cup” International Golf Tournament despite of the changes in time and situations. They enjoyed friendship and the fun of playing sports while shouldering social responsibilities of promoting peace through sports and supporting philanthropy with loving hearts. Transnational enterprises have contributed their wisdom and strength in China’s Reform and Opening Up and improved the business environment in Beijing. Now they are making joint efforts in building a beautiful and inclusive capital (“Four Centers”) featuring diverse cultures.

The tournament is co-organized by Beijing Association for Enterprises with Foreign Investment, Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China World Peace Foundation, and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation and supported by the Belt and Road Website. The undertakers of the tournament are: Hua Tang International Golf Club, HONMA Golf, Beijing Peace Garden Museum, and Youth Dream Special Fund.
