China.org.cn/ChinaGate.cn (Journalist: Wang Donghai and Yu Zhixiao) On May 15th, the 2018 Peace Garden Seminar for EMBA Students from Alberta School of Business was held at the Beijing Peace Garden Museum. The theme is “Economics and Culture—Enlightening and Leading the Future.” The event was jointly held by the Business School of the University of Alberta, the China World Peace Foundation, the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, and the China Net “One Belt and One Road” Net. Entrepreneurs and professionals from Canada, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Iran and other countries attended the seminar.
Li Ruohong, president of the China World Peace Foundation and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, said in his speech that 2018 is the “China-Canada Tourism Year”. Now there are around 700,000 Chinese tourists visiting Canada each year, and the number for mutual exchange visits has reached 1.5 million. On May 13th, in the prestigious Ottawa Tulip Festival, the organizing committee of the conference also specially displayed a picture of a red-petaled yellow-edged tulip named “China-Canada Friendship”. People will see this specially cultivated tulip at the Beijing World Horticultural Exposition in China and the Canadian Tulip Festival in 2019.
Li Ruohong pointed out that modern information technology has drawn us closer and increased our consensus. In the age of globalization, China and Canada need to learn from each other’s strength and conduct multilateral cooperation, especially in economic, social, and cultural aspects, to drive the economy through cultural exchanges. Li Ruohong also briefed delegates on the project “An Interactive Atlas of Cultural Interactions along the Silk Roads” together with UNESCO.
Dr. Edy Wong, Associate Dean of the Business School of Alberta University, Canada, said that since 2007, the “Peace Garden Seminar for EMBA Students from Alberta School of Business” has been held consecutively for 11 years. Over the past years, government officials, entrepreneurs, and artists from more than 40 countries have conducted extensive and in-depth cross-disciplinary academic exchanges with representatives of various sectors of the Chinese society to promote the connection of policies, economy, culture, and people’s hearts between China and Canada.
Lu Qingcheng, Secretary-General of the Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, introduced China's economic situation in three aspects: economic growth has created a miracle in the world in the 40 years since China’s reform and opening up, the main drivers and factors for the success of China’s economic and social development, and the current outlook for China’s economy and industry.
Han Shouhui, vice president of Xinhu Wealth Investment Management Co., Ltd., stated that the growth of China’s private capital has benefited from the continuous expansion of China’s A-share capital market, which is the result of diversification of Chinese enterprises’ industries and also a microcosm of China’s economic restructuring.
