On Jul 3rd,2013, Chinese and American Old Friends Symposium was jointly held by China WorldPeace Foundation and China Society for People’s Friendship Studies in PeaceGarden. People attending in this symposium included Mr. Sherwood Goldburg,Assistant of Former Secretary of State William Hague, Madam He Liliang, widowof Huang Hua who was the founder of China Society for People’s FriendshipStudies, Mr. Zhen Jianguo, Vice-President and Secretary General of ChinaSociety for People’s Friendship Studies, Mr. Gu Pin’e, Vice-President of ChinaSociety for People’s Friendship Studies, Mr. Li Ruohong, Consultant of ChinaSociety for People’s Friendship Studies, old generation of Chinese ambassadorsto foreign countries and experts in international studies.
As an old friend of Chinese people, Mr. SherwoodGoldburg has made great contributions to the development of China-US relations.He is the initiator of promoting cultural exchanges between the military bandsof the two countries. Mr. Sherwood Goldburg is making unremitting efforts tofurther enhance the deep friendship between China and US.
On this symposium, both sides made relaxed discussionon the issues they concerned. The topics were extensively referred, rangingfrom Mr. Snow to Pingpong Diplomacy, from Diaoyu Island to South China Seadispute. All of them are the ordinary citizens and former diplomats showingdeep concern on China-US relations as well. This symposium was an opportunityfor exchanging ideas and fostering friendship. All of them wish that PeaceGarden can be taken as a platform for improving China-US relations and advancinginternational peace course.
On the evening of Jul 4th, Mr. and Mrs.Sherwood Goldburg organized a China-US military band exchange documentary screeningactivity, providing their old and new friends another chance to meet and talk.Mr. Sherwood Goldburg introduced Mr. Li Ruohong to attending guests. On thatevent, he also extended his thanks to all the people who have madecontributions to joint performance by China and US military bands. All theguests reviewed all the wonderful moments of the performance together. Mr.Sherwood Goldburg expressed that he would continue to take China and USmilitary bands as the bond for friendship between the two countries and makeefforts to develop stable China-Sino relations. Chairman Li Ruohong said thatChina World Peace Foundation would expand its cooperation areas through “PeacePlus One” public welfare model, promoting world peace through culturaldiplomacy.
