On February 4th, in order to mark the 40th anniversary of the normalization of the Sino-U.S.. diplomatic ties, China World Peace Foundation and China Peace and Sport Organization jointly held a Peace and Sport Spring Festival Reception welcoming the visiting U.S. Champion for Peace Delegation. Among the participants of the reception were also some 100 people, including Chinese officials from both the Party and governments, foreign diplomats to China, famous Chinese and overseas entrepreneurs as well as people from various circles. CWPF chairman Li Ruohong and head of the U.S. delegation Jack Brewer respectively made speeches, expressing their hope that the people of the two countries would establish cooperation in multiple fields to accelerate the development of public good programs and promote the peace and development of the international community by means of the sport. 

 

China Peace and Sport Organization, as a neutral international organization for public good, which was jointly established by China World Peace Foundation and Peace and Sport Monaco, serves as a unique platform focusing on promoting cooperation and sustainable peace through the sport. The platform concentrates on providing services to governmental agencies, the global sport management organizations, international and national sports leagues, Champions for Peace, organizations of various economies and trades, non-governmental organizations and local participants, so as to promote peace through sport and carry out substantial and effective programs. It is expected that the platform will work as a think tank to contribute to dialogue and cooperation. 

 

The U.S. delegation consisting representatives from the U.S. circles of sport, art, finance and media aims to discuss with the China Peace and Sport Organization about the development space for peace and sport programs in the world, and confirm the relevant activities to mark the commemorative year relating to the Sino-U.S. diplomatic ties. 

 

At the reception, both the hosts and guests had a wonderful evening, exchanging toasts and ideas in an ardent atmosphere. The participants not only appreciated the artistic performance with unique Chinese characteristics, but also got presents of footballs and basketballs with signatures by famous Rugby stars, Jack Brewer and Marion Barber and NBA star Stephon Marbury, enjoying an extremely festive atmosphere. The activity is expected to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between China Peace and Sport Organization and its U.S. counterpart as well as play a positive role in enhancing the exchanges among peoples the two countries, especially in the fields of sport and culture. Just as Mr. Li Ruohong stated in his speech, 40 years ago, China and the United States opened doors to each other through the Pingpong diplomacy, which brought practical interest to peoples of both countries and contributed to the world peace. Today, the two great countries of sport will join hands to promote peace through sport, which is expected to bring more cooperative space to the international community.
